Children and Young People

We are committed to providing the best possible experience of worship and the Christian faith for children and young people.

We value them NOW as members of our parish and congregations

We have signed the 'Swindon Youth for Christ' Youth Charter

Our clergy and children's leaders are DBS cleared.

Children:

There is provision for children at every service except the two evening services at St Andrew's Church.  We have a team of children's leaders, who along with the clergy, take turns in leading the children's work.  Due to the layout of the church, all the children's work happens in the same space where the adults are worshipping.  This makes it a real 'family' atmosphere and children experience worship first hand.  As a result our children have a real sense of ownership of the building and are confident in it.

The lack of space does mean that we have to be very creative and organised and every service is really 'Messy Church'!  We currently have over 100 children on our books and around 35 children worship with us at least once a month.

Services which have a particular focus for children are The Children's Service 10am first Sunday of the month and the Afternoon All Age Service on the third Sunday of the month at Tadpole Farm CE Primary Academy.  These are both very good places to start your children worshipping with us. (See Services page for more details)

We use materials from a variety of sources, including Scripture Union, Sermons4kids and Urban Saints.

Simon Bristow tells us: "I've been amazed at how child-friendly St Andrews is.  The way the services are centred around them makes children truly welcomed into the church family, and it keeps them entertained, interested and stimulated.  Our little ones genuinely look forward to the services and learning about God's teachings."

Acting Out

"Acting out" is a new way for young people aged 8 and over to serve our community creatively using St Andrew's Church as a base. Acting Out is a 45 minute session at 4.30pm on the third Sunday of the month - see the Calendar for this month's details including anything to bring.

Tea, coffee and chat available for parents at the same time.

To ensure covid safety we ask:

  • everyone over the age of 11 to wear a facecovering (unless exempt) and those younger to wear one if possible please
  • to take your Sunday 'back to school' lateral flow test before you come (and only attend if it's negative

If you have a young person who would be interested but can't make the next Acting Out please let us know, otherwise we look forward to seeing them then.

Youth Group

Currently our youth group for older children is not meeting, but if you would be interested, or know a young person who would be interested in joining a group for young people in school year 7-13 please contact Sally Robertson.
